Our days are pretty jam packed and there isn’t a lot of time to be bored because we are kept fairly busy. All of our meals are provided by our host families which is why we go back & forth so much during the day. And we have a surprising amount of homework on any given day ranging from memorizing new Mongolian vocabulary to working on group presentations.

Mongolians are big are giving each other rides places, even if it only 20 feet. I often get a ride to school, since my host Dad is pretty much the driver for the village and along the way we inevitably pick up some of my fellow training group members. The weather has been pretty unpredictable since we arrived varying between cold, wet, rainy to HOT and dry days, so these rides are appreciated more often than not.

In addition, most Mongolians have hashaa dogs, but these are not pets. They are guard dogs! One morning, as I was being driven to school we came upon another one of my training members being “chased”, but really just furiously barked at by a dog. We of course, picked him up, but later that afternoon when I was to walk back to school, my host family insisted my host brother walk with me to school because of the dog.  I found this to be particularly funny, but it’s nice to know our host families are concerned for our safety and always looking out for us. I also found out on this walk my host brother is really into Akon & Eminem. My host sister on the other hand is an avid fan of Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Kelly Clarkson, and Beyonce or as she calls her Beyonc.
